Getting things done is hard. Getting things done without completely destroying our work-life balance is really hard. The idea has traditionally been that if we focus on the tasks and work we will inevitably achieve our goals and everyone will be happy. Most of us can remember working some really long weeks and hitting the “goal” but not feeling very happy. It doesn't have to be this way.
The great deception is that work and life should be two separate and sterile boxes that need to be measured and weighed by unreachable time-lines and responsibility. I've had the good fortune of working with Nick for a few years now. While you might think this would create bias, I prefer to think of it as being able to validate what Nick has put into this book. I've watched him talk, I've had many a "coffee walk" with him, and we've talked about this stuff a ton. So I know it's legit, that it comes from the heart, and that internalizing what he's saying in this book can lead to real growth.To me, this book is really about taking the things you love and sharing them. It's about not just having great ideas, but actually running with them and leaving your mark. Nick gives some great examples of both leaving a mark with the people you love and leaving a mark on the world. Both are achievable if you get out of your own way.
And while Nick is great, his family really shines in this book. My favorite line came from one of his kids, "It would really be hard to live on earth and not be creative."

His personal journey to where he got to is amazing and this is definitely reflected in every page of this book. If you are stuck in the eternal rat race, especially in technical role and can't get off without jeopardizing your family finances, this book is definitely worth a read.
